House catches fire, claims life of one

21 January 2013, 16:34 Antony Gitonga

Resident of Nyondia village in Naivasha are in shock after a 17 year-old boy was burnt to death in unclear circumstances.

There were conflicting reports on the cause of death with relatives claiming murder while others alleged suicide.

The teenager was alone in his timber-walled house when the fire broke out burning him beyond recognition.

A neighbor told how they were woken by screams and on rushing to the homestead found the house on fire.

“It was around 10pm and efforts to put off the fire were fruitless and we had to watch from a distance as everything was burnt down,” he said.

Area OCPD Charles Kortok confirmed the incident saying that investigations into the incident had started and the body had been taken to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, a 55 year old man was lynched in Kosovo area of Ndabibi Naivasha for allegedly raping a 70 year old granny.

Irate members of the public set on the man whom they accused of being behind a spate of robberies in the area.

The suspect had been in hiding for some months and on returning abused the woman who was on her way home.

According to a witness Simon Kibet, the suspect had been robbing area residents for some months before they nabbed him.

Kibet said that whenever he committed a crime, he would disappear and return after a few months when the issue had been forgotten.

“He came over the weekend and raped a 70 year old woman before members of the public caught up with him,” he said.
