Police in Nyeri Wednesday nabbed one suspect in connection with a robbery incident that took place at Unity Hotel Ruring’u, on the fringes of Nyeri town.
According to police reports initial investigations, the hotel manager Pius Maina Kinuthia was involved. Police also recovered KES 62 000 from him, the amount reported to have been stolen.
Unconfirmed reports state that Maina took the fateful day’s collection from the hotel and took it home. He later reported to work the next morning, April 14, as usual.
The cashier Lydia Wairimu asked him where the previous day's sales were so that she could take it to bank but Maina said he had no information regarding the money.
He further claimed that he had kept it in his table’s drawer but could not find it even after searching.
The cashier reported the matter to the police who arrested him and after interrogations he disclosed where the money was.
Maina had further claimed that it could have been stolen by robbers but notably there was no break-in spotted in the hotel and the night guards were still on duty.
He is awaiting a court trial to face charges of stealing.
