Kenya Hotel Keepers Association and Caterers want the government to set the election date to allow tourism players in the tourism sector to make their plans early in advance.
Speaking at one day Hotel stake holders’ workshop in one of tourists Hotels in Watamu in Malindi district on Thursday, the National chairman of Kenya Association of Hotels Keepers and Caterers Mr. Jaideep S. Vohra said the government should not hold the country at ransom by delaying to set the election date.
Setting the election date, Mr. Vohra said the tourism players will be able to set plans on marketing strategies adding that its delay may raise questions by tourists planning to visit the country.
“We want to start setting up marketing strategies and so if the government continues holding election date questions will be raised by tourists planning to visit the country,” he advised.
He proposed that the elections dates to be in December and not August where the country receives many tourists compared to December.
“If the elections can be held in December it would be good because in August many tourists visit the country compared to December. So the government should make a point of alleviating anxious amongst Kenyans by setting the date,” he said.
He was accompanied by Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and caterers Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mike Macharia and Kenya Association of Hotel and Caterers Coast Vice chairman Mr. Vickram Korla, Mih among others.
