Heavy rain leaves families without homes

23 July 2012, 12:45 Steve Wambugu

Hundreds of families at Kaptembwa estate in Nakuru spent their whole of Sunday night out in the cold following a heavy downpour that was experienced in the town washed away their homes.

According to one resident Kinsley Oduar who was affected by the ragging floods, he woke up in the middle of the night only to discover that the entire house was covered with water and he was only able to salvage a few clothes for himself and his family.

“When I went to sleep there was no rain at all but I was forced to wake up in the middle of the night after I realized my bed and house was all covered with water” said Oduor.

Confirming the incident, the newly appointed Nakuru area OCPD Kioko Muindi said there were no death cases so far that have been reported out of that catastrophe although there were some few people who caught some minor injuries.

“Our team together with the Red Cross we are working together to help the victims who were affected by the floods last night but so far there has been no reported death case although there some with minor injuries”said the OCPD Kioko.

Area councilor for Kamptembwa ward, Mohammed Soraw who is the Mayor of the town also appealed to the well wishers in Nakuru to help the families with food stuff while the council try and relocate them into safer grounds.
