Nairobi -The Maendeleo ya Wananume lobby group wants women who chop off their husbands' genitals be handed a life imprisonment term or a death sentence.
The organization's chairman, Nderitu Njoka has also raised concern that the courts have been lenient on women who attack their husbands.
Speaking during a press conference at White Rhino hotel in Nyeri town, Njoka said the organization has drafted proposals for amendment in the Sexual Offence Act.
“The offence of chopping off male genitals should henceforth be classified as (Male Genital Mutilation- MGM) and is an attempted murder, therefore should have a stiff penalty of life imprisonment because one is likely to be a serial chopper if set free by the law,” Njoka said.
He said 16 men have been severed their manhood this year, countrywide.
“We have also proposed that the offence of (Male Genital Mutilation- MGM ) should not have bail since it causes more misery to the victim since perpetrators are given a bond of less than KES.10,000 while the victim struggles in pain at the hospital bed,” he added.
He further asked women and political leaders to condemn the incidents.
“The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta should come out in public and condemn these attacks against men. Women will listen to her than any other women leader,” said Njoka.
He said use of drugs and illicit brews is one o the major cause of Gender Based Violence (GBV) as he accused the government of laxity in eliminating the vices.
