HIV positive man defiles his six-year-old niece

Homa Bay - An HIV positive man reportedly defiled his six-year-old niece, a class one pupil at Nyahera village in Homa Bay County.
The man, a father of two who separated from his wife because of his HIV status, allegedly defiled the child thrice on different dates at her grandmother’s house when the grandmother was away.
The girl’s mother, who is the suspect's sister, lives in Nairobi and returned home after learning about the incident. She said she has reported the matter to the police at Kendubay police station but the suspect has since disappeared from home.
The grandmother of the victim said they learnt about the heinous act after they saw the child walking with difficulties.
“Other children in the neighbourhood who saw the child bleeding also told me,” she said.

The grandmother identified the suspect as Tom Otieno.
After the incident came to the open, neighbours said that other children in the area came out to reveal they have also been victims of defilement by the said suspect.
They say the suspect, who owns and operates a posho mill in the village, has been luring the children with money to commit the despicable act.
Area children’s officer, Joseph Otieno said he heard of the case and has directed the family members to take the child to hospital and report to the police for the arrest of the suspect.
He promised to follow up the matter.
However, neighbours fear the case may not go anywhere as it involves family members and the mother of the child may not be serious to press for justice for the child as the grandmother only reported the matter after she was threatened with arrest.
