Gusii leaders back Jubilee, not CORD

01 June 2015, 08:40 William Korir

Nairobi - Leaders from the larger Kisii community have assured the jubilee administration of their support in accelerating development in the area.

They made the announcement at a church service and fundraiser for Nyansiongo Catholic Church in Borabu constituency which was attended by Deputy President William Ruto.

" We have resolved to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto because they have demonstrated determination to unite Kenyans by working with all communities," said Borabu MP Ben Momanyi.
The legislator added that "As leaders from the Kisii community, we have resolved to support this government because its leadership has demonstrated readiness to serve all Kenyans equally.’"

Among the leaders present during the Sunday mass were Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, MP’s Elijah Mosomi Moindi (Nyaribari Masaba) Richard Nyagaka Tongi (Nyaribari Chache) and Joseph Kiangoi of the East African parliament who echoed the Borabu MPs sentiments.

Ruto who was the chief guest during the event told Kenyans to be wary of those playing politics of division bent at dividing them.

He said he had decided with President Uhuru to unite Kenyans and chart a new political dispensation for the country.

" There are those who thrive on dividing Kenyans by engaging in divisive politics because their time in politics is over but the President and I have resolved to unite Kenyans,” he said.

He said all the efforts being carried to improve welfare of Kenyans was within the governments mandate and had no political inclinations.

" The work of government is not to tell stories but serve citizens, that is what a government is supposed to do," said the DP.

He told leaders across the political divide to desist from engaging in politics of division but endeavour to unite Kenyans.

" As leaders, you need to unite all the people because they are all Kenyans," he said.

Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso called on the neighbouring communities of Kisii and Kalenjin who have been warring to work together for speedy development in the common border.

" I am happy that we have resolved to work together to achieve speedy development in this region .This unity will assist us to end challenges that face us like stock theft along our common border. ’’

She also called for the speedy completion of Nyansiongo to Emura Dikir road saying that the road network will unite those in the region.

The declaration follows a meeting between some Gusii leaders with opposition CORD boss Raila Odinga last week where they pledged to help push forward the Okoa Kenya referendum campaign.
