Guard in court for stealing property worth KES 260K from tenants

Nyeri - A watchman was on Friday arraigned in a Nyeri court on theft charges.
Stephen Gachau Githure is accused of stealing electronic goods worth KES 260,000 from tenants in an apartment which he was employed to guard.
He was guarding Arlington Apartments in Classic area on the outskirts of Nyeri town.
Appearing before resident magistrate John Aringo, the accused person denied the charges and was released on a bond of KES 100,000.
The court heard that on October 23, Gachau broke into Victor Odhiambo’s house and stole two TV sets, a home theatre, laptop and a gas cylinder all worth KES 170,000.
In a second count, he was charged with stealing a TV, radio, and gas cylinder from Patrick Mumo Kisangai, all valued at KES 90,000 on the same day.
The accused person was alternatively charged with failing to prevent theft in the apartment, which he was employed to guard, leading to loss of valuables.
He was arrested on October 29 by Nyeri Central police officers. The case will be heard on December 12.
