Grief as step-mother beats HIV positive son to death

Kakamega - Police in Kakamega are holding a middle-aged woman for allegedly assaulting to death her 4-year old step-son who was found dead on Monday morning.
The boy, who is said to have been HIV Positive, was found dead in the woman’s house in Amalemba Estate in the outskirts of Kakamega town.
Speaking to journalists, neighbours allege that the woman had repeatedly been abusing the child by beating him up and denying him food.

“The child had suffered a lot in the hands of the step mother. She denied him food and a decent place to sleep. She even at times forced the kid to take an overdose of Anti- Retroviral (ARV) drugs,” said a neighbour who requested anonymity.
Another neighbour said they suspect the woman physically assaulted the young child because blood was oozing from his nose when the frail child’s lifeless body was found.
Police took the child’s body to Kakamega County Hospital Mortuary for preservation, while they woman is being held at Kakamega Police station and will be arraigned in court, once investigation are completed.
