Green Army fans exchange blows at Afraha Stadium

24 March 2014, 18:50 Wilshere

Nakuru - Gor Mahia fans on Saturday afternoon got into a brawl 20 minutes into a soccer match against Top Fry at Afraha Stadium.

Trouble begun at the Russia stands after the green army fans started hailing  insults at each other, this prompted stone throwing.

The referee stopped the match after some Gor fans started threatening him physical if he didn't stop the game and announce Gor Mahia the ultimate winner.

Police from central police station were forced to come and calm down the angry mob who were fighting among themselves.

The police opened two gates at the stadium and proceeded to chase the hooligans out of the stadium before normalcy resumed at Afraha.

According to one official at Afraha Stadium who did not want to be mentioned, he faulted the Gor Mahia stewards for inciting fans to start fighting.

“The stewards of Gor FC were the main cause of all the fight, because they are the ones who incited their fellow fans,” said the stadium official.

Some of the fans were seriously injured during the chaos which lasted for about 20 minutes.

On the pitch, the misery for Gor Mahia fans continued to pile after the home side who were yet to register any win against any team in the KPL worn the match two goals to nil.

It was unusual Saturday for Gor Mahia fans who had invaded Nakuru town earlier in the day in high spirits and went back to Nairobi with a bruised ego.

Meanwhile, a handful fans of Top Fry were left celebrating in the streets of Nakuru town after registering their first win against the big boys in the league.
