Curb logging, govt urged

A clique of forest conservationists in Naivasha district has made a plea to the government to give a helping hand to mitigate deforestation that has been rampant in the area.
The problem is especially initiated by the lumber manufacturers throughout the country.
John Wachihi the head of Central Highland Conservancy made an observation that approximately 0.5 million cubic meters are usually consumed by factories in their endeavors, a factor that has been threatening forestry department in the past.
Wachihi further noted that it was a clear indication that the rate at which residents replace the felled trees is very low compared to the amount of wood consumed by factories.
He further asked the residents to come up with an initiative to help curb deforestation in the region.
