Nyeri - A nominated member of the Nyeri county assembly representing the youth, Regina Macharia has urged the area county government to establish a youth recreational centre in every ward.
Regina said that youth are the majority in the population and are the major drivers of the economy.
She however forwarded a motion in the county assembly seeking to compel the county government through a legislation to consider the youth in its budgetary allocations.
Through the motion, she is also urging the government to establish a youth desk in every county executive department to address and cater for the youth issues.
“Youth counters will create a platform for them to access information,” she said.
Regina expressed concerns that there are no recreation facilities in the area to cater for the needs of the youth.
“This assembly urges the executive committee member in charge of Education and Information Communication Technology (ICT) to move fast in establishing the facilities,” said Regina, who is also the TNA party county coordinator.
She called upon her fellow MCAs to support the motion stating that it is aimed at steering the county forward in terms of development.
