Govt unveils KES 300 m loan facility for filmmakers

Nairobi - The Youth Enterprise Development Fund on Wednesday unveiled a KES 300 million loan product for filmmakers, dubbed TAKE254.
Speaking during the unveilling of the third sector-specific loan product, the Chairman of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund board, Evans Gor Semelang’o, said that the loan product is expected to help deal with some of the challenges facing the filmmakers and open opportunity doors for thousands of youths.
Semelang’o said that the loan will be available to Kenyans aged between 18 and 34 years and they will be expected to have a registered company or business name, register their scripts with the Kenya Copyrights board in order to protect the writers' work, attend mandatory pre-production training, outline their budgets using the provided template in the application form subject to the allowed limits, and produce films not less than 60 minutes long which can be in any Kenyan language.
He however noted that exceptional TV series may also be financed, and added that the amount available per film will range from KES 500 000 to KES 25 million.
Information and application forms will be available in all YEDF offices countrywide.
