Mombasa - The Jubilee government is set to start the construction of a state-of-the-art stadium in Mombasa in 2015, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Art Hassan Wario has said.
Wario said that there is only one stadium in Mombasa currently and plans are underway to build another stadium in the coastal town of Mombasa as well as in Eldoret town.
Speaking at the launch of Pwani Soccer Challenge at Makadara grounds in Mombasa, the CS urged the youth in sporting activities and use their talents to develop themselves.
“Among the richest people in the world are individual who play soccer, engage in these activities and avoid activities that will topple development," said Wario.

His sentiments were echoed by the County Cabinet Secretary for sports, Hazel Koitaba who urged the youth to embrace sports and also called upon the national government to help them build sporting infrastructure in schools within the County.
“At the moment, we are incapacitated because majority of our schools lack basic equipment to promote sporting activities,” said Koitaba.
Pwani Soccer Challenge is an initiative facilitated by the lobby group, HAKI Africa, to promote talent and enhance peace among the youth in the coastal town of Mombasa through sporting activities.
The initiative will be targeting a total of 108 teams from all the constituencies in Mombasa where it will be categorized into two categories under 12 and under 16.
