The Government has delivered a total of 47 000Kgs of foodstuffs to support flood victims in Nyando District.
District Commissioner Isaiah Tonui disclosed that the relief food included; 27 000Kgs of maize, 5 000Kgs of beans and 15 000Kgs of rice alongside 50 cartons of cooking oil.
However, Tonui said the food will be held for a short time as the few flood victims are still living with relatives, noting that they are closely monitoring the situation.
The administrator commended the Red Cross for having responded so swiftly to the situation even as they waited for the Government support to be delivered.
He said the Red Cross Society has helped the flood victims with non-food items like nets, drugs and clean water for drinking.
The DC appealed to other stakeholders to follow suit and step in to help with humanitarian activities.
Tonui urged local residents to stay on higher grounds during this rainy season to avoid further suffering and loss of lives.
On Monday, flash floods destroyed food crops, swept away animals and houses rendering several families homeless
