Nakuru - State House Office of Digital Communication on Wednesday entered into a partnership with Nakuru County government to offer free Wi-Fi in the County.
Speaking moments after signing the agreement, Director of the digital communication at State House, Dennis Itumbi said that this was one of the projects that the Jubilee government plans to implement across the 47 counties.
“Our government promised to deliver free internet across the country and that is why we have started with Nakuru,” he said.
Itumbi said that the project of setting up the Wi-Fi connection in the county will cost KES 200 million.
He also said that his office will set up a website and a mobile App for the County, which he said will aid in passing information to the public.
Governor Kinuthia Mbugua welcomed the initiative saying it will spur development in the County.
“I am very happy that we are the first County to receive free internet because it will boost learning for our students,” he said.
Itumbi said that they are planning to roll out the project in other counties before the end of this year.
