Govt accused of neglecting the elderly

The Rift Valley Council of Elders has hit out at the provincial administration for misappropriating the funds intended for the elderly.
The elders' council said that the government had neglected the needs of the elderly in the country.
Speaking in Kabazi Trading Center on Thursday morning during a registration exercise of the elderly people who are 65 years and above, the Council Chairman Gilbert Kabage said that it was high time that the government showed respect and love towards the elderly.
“Very few elderly people are benefiting from the cash transfer project where millions of shillings are minted by few individuals in the provincial administration. Therefore, let the elderly have a bank account where their money is deposited directly,” Kabage said.
The elders also revealed that they will be touring all the 47 counties registering all the persons aged above 65 years to facilitate smooth payment of the elderly.
Kabage said that the ICC should consider bringing the Kenyan cases back home as it will help the two leaders in government continue serving the electorates.
While noting that Kenyans voted overwhelmingly for the Jubilee coalition with full knowledge of the impending trial, Kabage said that peace would have been better if the cases were heard locally.
