Governors using health money to fund personal projects, Atwoli claims

31 August 2015, 11:06 Jackson Okata

Nairobi - The Central Organization of Trade Unions COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has accused Governors of sabotaging the health sector in the country by deliberately diverting money meant to pay health workers into what he termed as other petty and political projects.

Atwoli said that every Kenyan should support calls by the doctors and nurses unions to have health services reverted to the National Government.

Speaking Sunday in Naivasha town Atwoli said that all the problems bedeviling the health sector is a sole creation of the governors.

“Ever since the health sector was devolved the problems have become even more and the sector is almost being brought to its knees by greedy Governors who are more focused on political duels than service to the people,” said Atwoli.

He added “ It is a known fact that the Governors have been using money meant to pay doctors and health workers to facilitate their own personal projects and other political projects in counties,”

He warned that if no action is taken to save the health sector then the situation will be worse in the coming days.

" The national government needs to stand its ground because Kenyans will support it and reverse the health sector back to Nairobi because Governors have shown all intentions that they want to kill the sector,” he said.
