Nyeri - A meeting between Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua and representatives of health workers scheduled for Thursday was called off after the union officials failed to turn up.
The two groups were supposed to deliberate on ways of ending the two-week-strike by health workers.
Some reports indicated that the local union officials who were to meet the Governor were cautioned by their national officials against engaging in any talks with governors.
Gachagua announced Monday that he would be meeting representatives of the striking workers to seek an end to the strike that has greatly affected patients in public health facilities in the area.
When Gachagua met Medical superintendents, Nursing officers, Matrons, Public Health Officers and health administrative officers, he assured them that none of them would have their salaries reduced.
He had also assured the medics from outside the County that none of them would be discriminated in terms of promotions, responsibilities, training and career progression.
