Governors Council protests Timamy arrest, wants Kimaiyo out

Nairobi - The Governors Council has protested the arrest of Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and says Police boss David Kimaiyo must resign from duty for failing Kenyans.
Timamy has been arrested and charged in court Thursday for being behind the Lamu attacks that have seen over 70 people killed.
He has so far denied any role in the attacks.
Council chairman Isaac Ruto says that arresting Timamy is wrong on the part of the police as it violates the governors' constitutional rights.
He added that the government was looking for scapegoats in labeling blame for the current issues with insecurity.
" The Inspector General has failed in his duty and must be removed in the wake of the arrest of a duly elected Governor.
He added that Kimaiyo had repeatedly failed Kenyans in the past and his track record shows incompetence that should lead to him leaving his job.
The government has insisted that the Lamu attacks are politically instigated despite Al Shabaab claiming the attacks.
