Governor urges senators to concentrate on their constitutional mandate

Nyeri - Senators and Members of Parliament should concentrate on the roles given to them by the constitution, Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua has said.
Gachagua said that senators and MPs should deliver to the people without interfering with governors’ jobs.
While addressing media in Nyeri town, Gachagua accused Parliament of being a stumbling block to smooth running of counties and accused them of playing a hidden role to scuttle the spirit of devolution.
He further disapproved of the newly proposed law that allows senators to chair County Development Boards.
“Section 54 of County Government Act clearly states the role of the Governor in county and anything beyond that is unconstitutional,” said Governor Gachagua.
He said Nyeri County has managed to draft its budget giving priority to development agenda captured in County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), adding that the boards will have no role to play.
