Governor on the spot for sidelining elected leaders

06 May 2014, 14:36 Oduor Omondi

Kisumu - Kisumu Governor, Jack Ranguma has been challenged by residents to work with leaders from the region in order to realize development in the county.

At a public forum in Korando Village Kisumu West Constituency, the locals voiced concerns that the governor was not working closely with elected leaders but was instead consulting with agents and power brokers.

A number of speakers urged Ranguma to work with elected leaders to drive the county’s agenda forward as they understand the needs of the people at grassroots level.

Kisumu West sub-county Peace Committee chairman, Gordon Oliech said that the governor should include all elected leaders in the initiation stage of development projects as this would boost public participation and ownership of the projects.

Kisumu county deputy speaker, Pamela Omino challenged leaders from all the seven constituencies in the County to work with Ranguma regardless of their political ideologies.

She also asked governor Ranguma to occasionally consult with leaders as every decision on matters affecting the county should be arrived at after in-depth consultation between the leaders and members of the public.

Responding to the residents’ appeals, Ranguma assured the locals that he was ready to work with everyone including the elected leaders in developing the county.

“I will work with all leaders to address development plans and food security in the county,” he assured.

Ranguma promised county residents that massive development projects would soon be rolled out in the region in line with Vision 2030.
