Nyeri - Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua has asked the national government to release funds to counties in preparation for the predicted El nino rains.
Gachagua said that owing to the delay in disbursement of the funds, his government has decided to proceed with its own strategies to prevent any destruction.
Speaking in Nyeri town Wednesday, Gachagua said his County Government has already budgeted for KES 130 million as he asked non-government organizations and other development partners to assist in order to avert loss of lives and properties during the season.

He stated that residents living in areas prone to mudslides and floods including Tetu and Mukurweini have been advised to relocate to higher grounds.
“From next week, we shall provide tents and other necessities for Mukurweini residents living in areas prone to mudslides,” said the Governor.
He added that registered women and youth groups will be contracted to clear drainage in Nyeri town, Othaya, Karatina and Mukurweini townships.
