Governor accuses MP of inciting farmers against windmill project

Nyahururu - Nyandarua Governor, Daniel Waithaka Mwangi has for the second time rubbished claims that Kinangop Wind Park limited was out to swindle farmers out of their land.
Wind Park limited is expected to undertake a windmill project in Magumu and Githabai wards to add 60 megawatts to the national grid, but is surrounded by controversy.
In a press release from the governor’s communication office, Mwangi accused Kinangop MP Stephen Kinyanjui Mburu of inciting farmers against the company.
The governor at the same time dismissed allegations that the county leadership had links with the company and that the firm’s managing director, Eng. James Wakaba was spearheading economic interests of a leader in the County.
“The truth of the matter is that this project was started way back in 2004, some nine years before the County Government was conceived. Nobody in his right mind would accuse us of having colluded with the investors to take away farmers’ land. The lease agreements between farmers and investors were signed many years before the County Government was constituted,” the governor declared.
He added, “Leaders must speak the truth at all times and a mature leader should be prepared to tackle hard questions facing his people no matter the political consequences.”
