Governor blamed for dirty town

Business people at Kagumo town in Kirinyaga County are up in arms against Kirinyaga County Governor Joseph Ndathi due to what they termed as poor hygienic condition of the town.
The businessmen accused the new County government of neglecting their responsibilities thus turning the town into a filthy and dirty area which is inhabitable by the residents.
When the press visited the town, raw sewage was flowing all over the town with piles of garbage all over the market.
Area business community Chairman Frederick Kinyua described the condition as wanting and demanded immediate action.
He said that the town has become inhabitable due to foul smell emanating from raw sewerage and rotting garbage, threatening a legal action against the County government.
“We can’t continue paying license fees and other council taxes and yet we are not receiving any services from the council. We are going to court to stop the County government from collecting levies in this town,” he warned.
Kinyua also took swipe on public health officers whom he said are sleeping on their job saying efforts by the resident to air their grievances to the officers have not borne any fruit.
He alleged that public officers in the area are corrupt, inept and do not take their duties seriously and demanded their immediate transfer.
The Chairman further said that the officers should be moved to other area or forced to go home for failing to take their duties seriously warning that area residents are becoming impatient with the new County government.
“Public health officers in this town must go. We are going to call for a major demonstration against the Governor and his officers for sleeping on the job. We didn’t elect the Governor to go and sleep, he must act now,” charged Mwangi.
He said that they fear of food-borne disease outbreak in the area if the matter is not urgently dealt with.
