Lamu - The government has said it will not stop the construction of the new Lamu Port despite the recent insecurity attacks that left over 60 people dead.
Kenya Ports Authority chairman, Danson Mungatana said the government will continue with the construction of the new Port.
"As KPA, we know we are putting a lot of resources in this LAPSSET and other projects and some people want you to leave because they want to benefit from these projects," said Mungatana.
The former Garsene Member of Parliament urged the locals not to vacate their homes since the government has embarked on a proper strategy to combat any insecurity challenges in the region.
Mungatana however challenged the local leadership to come together to unite the people since security situation in the region may derail any economic development.
"We want the government to investigate the attacks keenly. They may send away investors," he added.
Mungatana’s call comes as the Lamu governor Issa Timammy recorded statements with the police over the recent attacks in Lamu.
