Nairobi - The government will deploy National Youth Service Personnel  to help in the re-building of Mpeketoni.

The town is in shambles since the attack by militants last Sunday left over 60 people dead and property destroyed.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had promised that the government would assist the businesses, home owners and individuals who lost their property get back on their feet.

And in announcing the efforts by the government, devolution secretary Ann Waiguru confirmed that the government would commence those efforts immediately.

She said that 105 NYS personnel will be sent to Mpeketoni in due course to commence the town's re-building process.

" The Ministry will be deploying 105 NYS men & women, 2 begin the reconstruction of physical & economic infrastructure that has been destroyed, she said.

" Skilled masons, carpenters, welders & plumbers will help in the reconstruction of Mpeketoni infrastructure & rebuilding of homes of victims, she added.

She also thanked the efforts made by the Kenya Red Cross in ensuring that the lives of the residents go back to normal quickly.

" Reconstruction initiative is geared at supporting communities in rebuilding their lives, and reclaiming their pride and dignity as a people.

" We are particularly thankful to the Kenya Red Cross for responding with speed, & demonstrating a strong willingness to partner with the government, she added.

She also sent out a plea to Kenyans to support efforts to help the town and its residents get back to normal as soon as possible.

" We call every Kenyan, from all walks of life; private sector/religious sector/other to rally together in support of our brothers and sisters, she added.

GSU personnel, Administration Police as well as KDF soldiers are already on the ground trying to get things back to normal in the town.
