Government on Makaburi killers' trail

03 April 2014, 12:55 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - The government says that it is on the trail for the killers of muslim cleric Abubakar Shariff 'Makaburi'.

Following the death of the cleric who was known to be an open supporter of radicalistic views in the country, some sections of muslim faithful had suggested that the murder was instigated by government forces.

This follows the linking of the recent Likoni church attacks to Makaburi and his subsequent murder a few days later.

The government has denied ideas that it may have been party to the murder and has moved on to state that it will seek his murderers just like it would for other similar incidences.

Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo confirmed that the government is working on leads concerning potential candidates for the murder.

" We are treating this case as we would any other murder case. We are following leads on the potential murderers, Kimaiyo said Thursday.

" It is not a closed case as some would like to suggest. The deceased was a Kenyan and the police are looking for the perpetrators of the violent act, he added.

As for the general state of fear in the country following increased threats of bomb related incidences in the, Kimaiyo has called on the public to remain calm and report any incidences they feel are worth a look.

" I would like to ask the public to remain calm and report any sinister cases to the police. We depend on them as much as we do our intelligence reports, he added.
