Mombasa - Mombasa County government has demolished a 4-storey building worth KES 35 million at VOK area in Nyali constituency.
Top officials in Mombasa County government led by lands, housing and planning executive, Francis Thoya mobilized construction departments to spearhead the exercise which was done under tight security on Monday afternoon.
A bulldozer was hired to bring down the residential building that had threatened lives of the local residents since it was almost collapsing due to poor planning.
Thoya warned against illegal construction of structures without following the due procedures saying by doing so, they endanger lives of many.

“We have found that this house could not be reconstructed, and we had no other option but to demolish it,” said Thoya.
The county executive however warned that the directive was issued after thorough deliberations, saying that similar structures will not be allowed in the County.
“This should be a lesson to others. The county government is keen on the kind of constructions going on in Mombasa and any building that does not follow the required planning will be demolished without any warning,” warned Thoya.
The owner of the building who did not want to be named told journalists that it developed cracks following the heavy downpour that was recently experienced in the region.
