Vihiga - A bus belonging to the Easy Coach Company was hijacked Wednesday morning near Chavakali market in Vihiga County by individuals who were dressed in police uniform and armed with various weapons including rifles.
The goons who hijacked the vehicle that was travelling from Nairobi to Kakamega managed to steal from the passengers, property of unknown value and ran away before police arrived at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Sabatia police boss, Martha Mutegi said that initial investigations indicated that the attack had not been planned before being executed.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped it at the place and was attacked by the individuals whom he thought were police. They however took the keys from him and started harassing the passengers,” said Mutegi.
She noted that the robbers badly injured only one passenger who tried resisting their search and attempted to raise alarm while the other passengers only suffered loss of their valuables.
She revealed that they have instigated investigations into the incident with the aim of arresting the terror gang.
“We are appealing to the residents of the region to help us in curbing crime by reporting any individuals who are involved in crime,” she said.
Cases of crime in Sabatia constituency have been on a steady rise over the past months, with the police promising to bring order but failing to do so.
