Nairobi - Two of Kenya’s leading gospel artists Gloria Muliro and Willy Paul have in a post on Facebook announced that they will not be participating in this year’s Groove awards.
The awards are the most prestigious in the gospel industry and seek to award the most outstanding artists in the industry. In the post, Gloria Muliro sited the reason for her and Willy Paul’s refusal to participate is to pave way for the upcoming artists with talent to also experience the joys of winning these awards and since they won the same last year, they feel that they might be selfish if they had another go.
"Hi my Friends, fans. About the ongoing groove awards, I would like to tell you that I am not contesting this year because I decided to step down and pave way for my fellow artists to whom I would love to see them prosper in this music industry. I believe that there are so many young talents out there who are working hard and who need such a motivation more than I do and that is why my son Willy Paul and I will not be contesting in the awards this year because we were lucky to get the same last year. We've won different awards even from outside the country and so we decided to let the struggling young talents to have a share of the cake, also because we might appear to be selfish, she announced.
" I respect the organizers of Groove awards and am ready and willing to work together with them, she added.
With such artists taking a back seat with these events and giving way to the younger generation to prosper, I feel that we might be making the right steps forward in the industry, and more of this kind of generosity and thoughtfulness must be encouraged.
