Give your man the space he deserves

15 September 2014, 15:43 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - When your man needs his space and when I say space I mean a boys night in, you should grant him.

Here are a few tips for making it a success:

You cannot be there.

Maybe once in a while the girls will be invited, but you cannot be there. It is called a boys’ night in for a reason. Only guys. It is not because there is something sinister that will happen but because they want to watch sports, talk sports and eat like animals while making crude jokes. You being there just makes it inhibiting from them. They cannot laugh while choking on their food, or make dirty insulting jokes about some people and belch.

The food has to be good.

If you do not want to cook do not do it. If you cannot cook, let everyone know in advance so that they can just eat elsewhere. It is horrible if someone comes with a hungry stomach to find poor food just puts guys in a piss poor mood ruining everything. I have a friend who gets migraines from hunger.

In most cases alcohol will be there, but in others -not. But this is not up to you, it is up to the guy. If you are not comfortable with alcohol, then that is why you will not be there. If you do not want it there at all, then that is why he spends all the times with his boys at the club- you are not allowed to complain unless he is a messy drunk.

Otherwise, you can refuse to do so under the following conditions;

Rudeness- His friends are just plain rude to you or some are just insulting.

Messiness- When they are done, the living room looks like a hurricane went through and they do not want to clean after themselves. If they do not at least he should step –up. You are not a maid/waitress.

He has not been nice.

If he has not been good to you, has not apologized, then he surely does not need you hosting anything for him.

It is impromptu

You are allowed to have your own schedule, he is not allowed to just drop it on you.
