Teachers and pupils of Brickwoods Academy in Nanyuki were engulfed with jubilation as it has produced top scorer in the 2012 K.C.P.E exams.
This unfolded on Monday when Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo pronounced Douglas Gichohi Maina as the seventh student nationwide having 427 marks.
Gichohi emerged the top pupil in Laikipia County, three marks away from the top pupil nationwide Kinoti Joy Kithure from the neibouring Meru County who scored 430 marks.
“When the minister was announcing the results, I was watching television at my neighbour's in Ichuga village and truly I couldn’t believe it was me until I came to school and confirmed from my teachers it was true,” said the flamboyant Gichohi.
The 15 year old boy who now aspires to be an aeronautic engineer says that his exemplary performance was a result of his hard work and persistence.
He is looking forward to joining Alliance Boys High School so that he can fulfil his dreams.
His class teacher Peter Muriithi could not hide his joy, saying that Gichohi has not only made his school proud but the entire Laikipia.
“Gichohi always toped in my class and as his class teacher, am proud of him. He is a star and I believe that he will continue surprising the world throughout his academic ladder,” Muriithi said.
