Garbage collectors decry exploitation

Nakuru - Lake View MCA, Simon Wanyoike has said that youths who collect garbage are being forced to pay KES 1 000 to the office of environment to fuel the garbage truck.
He said that the youths are normally forced to remit the cash every Monday morning to the county offices or risk being penalized.
“I was very shocked to see that our youths are being forced to fuel the garbage truck,” he said.
Speaking Tuesday to the media in Nakuru town, Wanyoike said that there are some officials in the office of environment in Naivasha who are busy swindling the public out of their money.
He said that the County assembly has not passed any bill or motion that compels the public to be fueling the County vehicles as they are normally fuelled by the government.

“This is unacceptable because as County assembly, we have not made any policy that gives permission to the public to be fueling County vehicles,” he said.
He said that County executive for environment, Richard Rop needs to come out and explain why junior officers in his ministry are charging the youth.
Wanyoike also said that the County minister of Finance, Francis Mathea should explain where he took the money meant for fueling County vehicles.
