One gangster was shot dead while his three accomplices escaped with gunshot wounds after Police trailed in their hideout at the sprawling Maina village in Nyahururu.
According to Nyandarua North police chief Benjamin Onsongo, police suspected they were planning to commit a crime in Nyahururu town at time of the ambush.
They were alerted by other gang members that a police vehicle was seen passing near their hideout when they started escaping and exchanging fire with the police.
Police managed to gun down one of them as the rest escaped with bullet wounds.
Onsongo appealed to health officers to report any person with bullet wounds seeking treatment in their facilities in order for them to be arrested.
The police believe that the gang is the one behind the recent spate of killings in the area, including the murder three people in Laikipia County.
Onsongo said that security in the area has been beefed up, and several kingpins in the murder and robbery incidents arrested.
