Bungoma - An overnight prayer session at Bukembe shopping centre in Bungoma South sub-county ended on a sour note after a gang attacked and raped two women during the session.
Bungoma County Commissioner, Maalim Mohammed termed the incident as unfortunate and urged religious leaders to always seek for protection from security personnel whenever they arrange for night prayers.
“There are police officers in all areas of the County. If you have night prayers ask them to provide you with security,” said Maalim.
He said that a gang of unknown number robbers armed with crude weapons attacked Word of Grace worshippers Friday night at around 10 pm and committed the crime.

“They injured several people before members of the public who were responding to their distress calls beat two of the gangsters and left them for dead," Maalim said, adding that the two are nursing injuries at Bungoma Referral Hospital and would assist police with investigations once they recover.
He however asked members of the public not to take the law into their hands by subjecting suspects to mob justice, and further asked anyone with information on the whereabouts of the other criminals to report to police.
