Gachagua the first Central Governor to support referendum in public

Nyeri - Nyeri governor, Nderitu Gachagua is the first governor from Central Kenya region to publicly support calls for a referendum.
Other governors in the region have remained mum and avoided making comments or declarations in public to show their support for the referendum push.
Last week, Gachagua threw his weight behind the quest for more funds to the counties.
He said people must be given the opportunity to decide whether they want more money devolved to counties or not.
He explained that funds allocated to devolved governments currently were not enough and thus the justification to have them increased through a public opinion.
Gachagua noted that most of the funds channeled to County Governments have been going to recurrent expenditure leaving little money for development.
The governor however said that if the National Government heeds to their demands and increases the allocation to 45 percent, they will drop their calls for a referendum.
