Gachagua tells Uhuru to skip ICC trial
21 October 2013, 16:12
Nyeri - Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta not to attend his trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
He said the ICC should wait for President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to complete their terms in office then prosecute them later.
“ICC should let the two leaders execute their respective constitutional obligations and complete their terms in office. Currently they have national duties given by Kenyans through the constitution,” said Gachagua.
He further urged the court to halt the cases until the duo gets back into their private and personal life when Kenyans will not be majorly observing them neither have any national responsibility.
“The ICC prosecution should wait till Uhuru and Ruto are ordinary citizens for them to attend trial,” Gachagua noted.
The governor made the remarks at Kamukunji Stadium in Nyeri town during Mashujaa Day celebrations.
