Nairobi - Two GSU officers were shot dead by castle rustlers in Baringo following a raid by cattle rustlers.
The attack took place Friday evening after officers who had been on a mission to retrieve stolen cattle were ambushed by the rustlers in Marigat area.
One GSU officer died on the spot after the attack with the other dying while receiving treatment.
Two other injured officers were airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment.
According to County Commissioner Bernard Leparmarai the raid took place after the officers went in search of cattle that had been stolen Thursday night.
It is understood that the officers were stranded after being caught in the middle of the attacking rustlers who shot at will.
No cattle rustler was arrested in the incident.
" It was a well planned raid because they attacked from different sides and they were ruthless and shot at will, he said.
The County Commissioner added that it was upto the government to increase its search for illegal fire-arms following the incident.
" It means that we still have many illegal fire arms and we will have to step up our efforts to re-claim all of them, Leparmarai added.
The incident occured just a few hours after president Uhuru Kenyatta said that he had given in a two week ultimatum for all illegal fire-arms to be handed over to the government in an effort to reduce incidences of crime in the country.
