Busia - Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has highly condemned an incident where a stray bullet from an Administration Police officer's gun is said to have killed a 14-year-old in Machakusi area.
Ojaamong condemned the incident when she visited the family of the victim in Machakusi village, Busia County.
The deceased, Janice Ichudi, a Standard Seven Pupil at Amoni Primary School died at Elgon View Hospital in Bungoma as doctors battled to remove a bullet that was lodged in her throat.
Narrating the ordeal, her uncle said a mob had pursued a suspected cow thief who was being escorted by two APs from the nearby Machakusi AP Camp.
On sensing danger from the crowd which was baying for the blood of the suspect, the AP officers sought refuge in the girl's family compound where they hid him before locking the door.
In a bid to scare away the charged crowd, an AP officer shot at the window. The bullet smashed the window and found the pupil sleeping. It hit her on the neck through the mouth.

Her uncle said he was forced to lock the officers in his house to save them from irate mob who wanted to revenge over the girl's killing.
"The officers were rescued after I called for more reinforcement," he said.
Ojaamong termed the incident as unprofessional conduct by the law enforcers wondering why they shot at the window instead of shooting in the air.For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!
