Perennial power blackouts in Homabay County will soon be a thing of the past once the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) completes the construction of extra power sub-stations in the region.
Responding to complaints raised by the residents, Homabay KPLC Chief Engineer, Geoffrey Muli attributed the frequent power outages in the region to an over dependence on a single sub-station situated in Kisii County.
Speaking at the Homabay County Hall, Muli further disclosed that KPLC is constructing other sub-stations at Katito, Awendo and Sondu Miriu. The three will hence supplement the power supply in the region.
The Chief Engineer also took the opportunity to appeal to locals to volunteer any tangible information regarding the vandalism of transformers and earth-wires.
“Those who vandalize transformers are not only enemies of the government, but are also a pain in the flesh of many Kenyans who fork out a lot of money in order to access electricity” he said.
He said that widespread vandalism of electricity equipment in the region cannot be overemphasized since it is also a major impediment to the regular supply of power in the county.
