A four-year-old girl perished in a deadly road carnage which occurred along Nanyuki - Meru road Thursday.
The child died after the motorcycle she was riding alongside her father and mother was hit by a lorry which was ferrying bananas from Meru to Nakuru.
The child’s mother, Naomi Wachira, sustained a fracture on the right leg and a deep cut on the head while her father, Daniel Wachira, sustained a fracture on the left leg in the tragedy that occurred next to Laikipia County police headquarters.
According to Laikipia East Police Commander Marius Tum, Wachira and his wife had picked their daughter from school and were heading home in the nearby Likii village.
Tum said that the lorry had lost control earlier plunging into a Toyota Prado car belonging to a local businessman which was parked on the roadside.
The couple is admitted at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital while the body of the deceased was removed to the hospital’s morgue.
Police identified the deceased as Winfrey Wanjiku.
The driver was arrested and is expected to be charged in court, while the vehicle was taken to Nyeri traffic headquarters for inspection.
