Four tacky ways to decline free drinks from stranger

17 September 2014, 15:45 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Do women in Kenya decline free drinks from strangers? With the stories going around currently, it seems they would even drink the bar if possible. But if you are not the type to, how do you decline free drinks?

Decline the drink courteously but very firmly

Believe it or not, he did not send the drink so that he can stare at you from across the room, while you wait for your partner, friend or another guy to buy you another drink. It is a barter trade and if you do not want to talk to him, then decline. Because once you take a sip, you have invited him over. Tell the bartender to thank him on your behalf. If you feel bad just say you are waiting for someone, if you are not, it is still your right to decline. You do not have to make up excuses. Do not feel bad, because if he is buying for you, he bought for others and will try with another after you refuse.

Use the bartender

He sees a lot of ladies everyday being roped in by the drink and also the ones who refuse. He brought it, I am sure he can take it back quite easily. It’s his job. He is not allowed to force you just because he may get a tip from using you as a transaction piece.

Create a boundary

Some never take no, so if you keep looking back at him instead of your partner, he will think you are interested. In this case it is your fault if he comes over. You can even turn your sit or move so that your back is to him. He will get the point. But no need to sneer and make faces unless you are harassed.

Do not compliment the guy and do not flirt

It will be taken as a positive come-on.
