Police in Malindi have been granted permission by a Malindi court to conduct investigation on four suspects alleged of possessing fire arms illegally.
Principal Magistrate, Nathan Shiundu granted the police orders to remand the four for a period of five days at the Malindi police station to pave way for investigations.
Investigating officer, George Ogolla had applied to the court to extend the time of detention of the four since investigations had not been completed and a charge sheet prepared.
The accused Hassan Gubo Danio, Kararo Guyo Boru, Mohamed Dima Hassan and Guyo Abajilo Bashora were arrested at the Sabaki Bridge roadblock along the Malindi - Lamu road on the 21st of July and found to be in possession of four rounds of ammunition of 7.62 millimeters caliber and two empty magazines of a G3 rifle.
Corporal Ogolla told the court that the firearm that is being looked for is in Chakama area, 120 kilometers from Malindi town.
"Because of the distance involved from Malindi to Chakama in Langobaya division we want the court to give us more time and remand the four so that we can continue searching for the gun that one of the accused admitted that they had left it somewhere," he noted.
The four have been remanded at the Malindi Police station until 30th July when the case will be mentioned.
"I have considered the application by the investigation officer and i hereby order the accused person to be remanded at Malindi police station for five days until investigations are through," he ordered.
