Former speaker says Raila is a coward

Nairobi - Raila Odinga is a coward for pulling out of the Homa Bay Senatorial seat, a former speaker of the national assembly has said.
Farrah Maalim, former deputy Speaker, called the move by Raila to pull out of the race wrong and full of cowardice.
He said that the reality is that a return to the national assembly was prudent as it would see the former Prime Minister re-assert his authority on the political scene.
With his withdrawal also, Raila had lost a chance to serve Kenyans and pull numbers for change within the Senate.
" I think it was a wasted opportunity for Raila," Maalim said.
" I can understand that people felt the position was too small for Raila, but we have seen it before in the world and it has reaped benefits for those who did it. I am sure it would have been the same for Raila, he added.
By being on the outside like he has, Raila will also miss the chance to push his team in the house to support devolution.
" I think that being a champion like he has on devolution would have helped even as he could push for legislation and lobby the house to enact change in legislation to make Kenya a better country, he added.
Raila said Monday that he had decided to quit the race because he felt he needed to build ODM.
This followed an exerted push by MPs and Homa Bay elders to have him run for the seat.
