Former minister Mukhisa Kituyi's son dies

28 June 2015, 16:00 William Korir

Nairobi - The son of former minister Mukhisa Kituyi Ivar Makari has passed on at his Nairobi home.

The late Ivar was found dead at his home in Nairobi's Roselyn Gardens Saturday night by his wife who had not been out on a party.

Makari himself had been out with his friends before arriving back home and going on to bed where he is suspected to have had a diabetic attack.

He was 30 years old.

Makari was son to Kituyi, a powerful Cabinet Minister in the Moi and Kibaki regimes.

He is also a respected leader in the Western Kenya region and was for a long time the Kimilili member of parliament.

Ivar was Kituyi's eldest son. Kituyi is currently the Secretary-General of the senior United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Deputy President William Ruto was quick to send his message of condolences.

" My very sincere sympathies and condolences to our brother Dr Mukhisa Kituyi for the loss of their child. May God comfort you," he said in a tweet Sunday.

CORD leader Raila Odinga also sent his heartfelt condolences to the Kituyi family.

" Condolences to Dr Kituyi and his family during this sorrowful time," he said.

Ivar's body is lying at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
