21 March 2013, 17:27
A former church elder was on Wednesday evening burnt beyond recognition by rowdy and irate youths in Mathira District of Nyeri County.
The man was found handling stolen cow and had reportedly been given several warnings following his regular crimes of stealing from neighbours.
The young men were searching for the cow which had gone missing three days ago when they got a tip off that it has been spotted in the home of the deceased.
According to villagers, the deceased was recently a good follower of the Presbyterian Church.
He lived singly and was once a church elder before he was dismissed from the church after many complaints from the villagers were raised on him.
During the 1500Hours incident, the divorced man was in women's dress code (skirt) and a Women’s Guild turban.
It could not be immediately established where and how he had acquired the church attires.
The body was taken to Karatina district hospital morgue.
