Nairobi - A former MP has denied accusations that he is involved in a plot to grab a building in the Nairobi CBD.
Former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua was named in a group of influential persons who have been linked in a plot to take over Caxton House in the CBD.
The saga came to prominence this week after a group of over 200 hired youths attempted to take over the building, a matter that in the end caused the death of 1 person and injuries to many others.
Rumours have been circulating that Mbugua is part of the scam but the MP was quick to distance himself from the matter.
" I was not part of the plot, or any plot as a matter of fact," he told News24 Friday.
" My name has come up in this matter for reasons I do not understand. People know me well, my businesses, my movement and my life, why out me in this? "
" I would like to clear my name from the matter. I am not a part of the Caxton House controversy," he added.
Police says that they will arrest and charge whoever was to blame for the fracas that took place as it caused the death of a person.
Central Police OCPD Paul Wanjama said that investigations were ongoing on finding out who exactly led the gang to the building.
The building is currently owned by a Sayani Investments LTD and its lease on the property has expired, thus the melee witnessed, sources have said.
