Form two student kills baby to win lover's heart

28 May 2014, 09:14 Chepkwony Robert

Nakuru - Police in Kuresoi are holding a 19-year-old girl for allegedly killing her 11-month-old son in a bid to win the heart of her lover who had promised to marry her if she got rid of the baby.

Caroline Chepng'eno, a  form two student at Mutukanio Secondary School in Kuresoi, is said to have killed the baby boy through poisoning.

According to area residents, the boy succumbed to the poison before relatives who had gone to rescue him could rush him to the hospital.

Irate residents attempted to lynch the girl but village elders came to her rescue and took her to the nearest police station where she is being held.

"Village elders managed to rescue the girl when angry residents decided to lynch her. She was handed over to the police," said one of the elders, Michael Tanui.

The body of the deceased was taken to Molo district hospital for autopsy with the elders warning young girls against engaging in unproductive relationships that will affect their livelihoods.

Confirming the incident, Kuresoi OCPD David Wambua said police officers are conducting investigation over the murder and also to arrest the student's lover.

"The student will be arraigned and chargeed once the investigations are complete," said Wambua.
