21 November 2012, 15:50 Oduor Omondi

Police in Nyakach District have arrested a form three student for giving birth and allegedly burying the new born baby alive.

Also arrested for questioning is the girl’s father who is a head teacher at a local Primary School in Kadiang’a East.

Nyakach Police Boss Dismas Wanjala said they have commenced investigations over the matter to establish to truth.

The girl allegedly left school on November 9 this year in the company of her father after the school’s authority informed him that his daughter was pregnant.

The girl revealed that a close cousin was responsible for the pregnancy, a matter which stunned his father.

The father reportedly wanted her daughter to procure an abortion and sought the services of a traditional birth attendant who only gave the girl some herbs which induced labour pains after which she gave birth to a baby boy on November 13.

Upon giving birth, her father, step mother and the traditional birth attendant who helped her to deliver buried the baby alive while he was still crying loudly at night.

The birth attendant who was not happy with what transpired reportedly informed the girl’s grandmother about the incident.

Police are also looking for the traditional birth attendant for questioning.
